Our coffee farmer Lemlem Shibiru, a coffee farmer from Kochere in Ethiopia’s Gedeo zone, grew up immersed in coffee cultivation and developed strong expertise working at a local cooperative. After marrying Shibiru Dukale, she helped manage his family’s coffee farm while dreaming of owning her own washing station.
For years, they sold coffee cherries at low prices, but through hard work, support and improved income, she saved and invested until she successfully built her own washing station in 2022.
Her station now processes coffee from her farm and over 100 local farmers, offering fair prices, sharing knowledge, and improving quality across the community. This has strengthened local livelihoods and opened access to international markets, marking her journey as one of persistence, empowerment, and community impact.
